NU:S is an extraordinary installation that explores the intersection of fashion and architecture, pushing the boundaries of the Roman art scene with the innovative contributions of emerging talents.
Conceived and creatively directed by Antonella Buono, the project brought together architects Arturo Tedeschi—a computational designer and author of the acclaimed book Parametric Architecture with Grasshopper—and Maurizio Degni, alongside fashion designers Chiara Cola, Simone Bruno, Flavia Migani, and Alessio Spinelli, a footwear designer recognized as the 2011 Who's On Next Accessories category winner.
The result is a harmonious blend of disciplines that respects each one’s unique identity, forming a groundbreaking creative manifesto through the use of parametricism—an architectural language centered on digital modeling techniques that employ computer programming. This paradigm opens powerful avenues for exploration and formal experimentation, rivaling traditional drawing tools in their investigative potential.
The installation comprises four dresses and accessories within a parametric framework that continually interacts with the exhibition space, inviting the audience into a multidimensional learning experience.
The soundtrack, composed by Davide Severi, combines Renaissance influences with a rich digital background, enhancing the installation's atmosphere. The entire creative process has been meticulously documented in images and videos by Francesco Ricci Lotteringi.
NU:S
was commissioned by Double, a dynamic Rome-based company focused on the convergence of diverse contemporary art forms.
Double is spearheaded by Maria Rosaria Melia (Executive Producer), Antonella Buono (Creative Director), and Benedicta Mariani (Account Executive), a team committed to supporting innovative cultural phenomena. “Our mission is to uphold Italian excellence by nurturing research, especially in the current economic climate, where market pressures can stifle creative freedom.”
To foster this creative environment, Double offered the designers an artistic residency that provided comprehensive economic and logistical support. This enabled them to experiment with new forms of expression within an ideal cultural context and bring their concepts to life for the exhibition.
The exhibition debuted on Saturday, July 6th, 2012, with an exclusive, invitation-only performance from 7:00 PM to 11:00 PM. It remained open to the public until Tuesday, July 10th, following the Cloister of Bramante’s regular hours.
Following its initial run, the installation was hosted by the Rome Contemporary Art Museum until September 5, 2012.
Double continues to develop exciting new projects.
